Company History

In 1998 three young, slim, dark haired opticians decided to form an optical partnership second to none in the North East. So Hughes, Macdonald & Davidson was conceived. We opened our first practice in Peterhead in February 1988 and after a very successful year, we then opened in Inverurie in June 1989.Sticky

Expanding waistlines grew quicker than our practices because it was not until 2003 that we opened Turriff . 2008 then saw our fourth practice open in Banchory.

We are very fortunate to have staff in all of our practices who are extremely dedicated and loyal to HMD. Lyn in Peterhead and Margaret in Inverurie have both over 20 years with us, and many others are close behind. Gail Thomson, our optician in Turriff counts over 10 years and Teri McGowan who works in Peterhead mainly, started as a wee schoolgirl before going to university, passing all her exams and becoming a valuable member of our team. Anne Glennie in Banchory can only count 2 years, but then that is all we have been open! Andrew McLeod in Inverurie has been with us for 3 years and is in fact now a partner in the Inverurie and Banchory practices (and he still has black hair!)

Will there be new practices opened in the coming years? Time alone will tell. Meantime we have refurbished Peterhead and Inverurie and will continue to keep our premises modern and welcoming for your visit.

In keeping with our modern image we constantly strive to keep abreast of new technologies and as such continue to upgrade our equipment as we see fit. All our practices have digital imaging (retinal photography), and all are equipped with visual field screeners which are registered to carry out DVLA checks.
