Golf Optician Alan Macdonald has successfully completed a Diploma in Sports Vision.
During the course, vision and its impact on sports such as Golf were discussed.
A sport vision check is not the same as an eye examination and a fee is charged. The fee covers all diagnostic testing and initial therapies if needed. It also covers reports and liaison with manager and coach if applicable. |
Focus on golf
In golf the proper address position is eyes directly over the ball with the dominant eye over the back tip of the ball, regardless of L/R dominance. This is where a full Sports Vision assessment is important. One of the firsts test done is the Eye Dominance test. Many people think they know their dominant eye, but get it wrong. You may need to understand the difficulties when you are cross dominant. (Right eye, Left hand). Cross dominant people need to widen their stance to accommodate the proper address position. The effect of the eye muscle balance is very important. Even people with slight problems that do not cause difficulties at work etc; can be a problem in the sporting situation. In golf, depending on the type of muscle balance you have, you may consistently putt long and hit the ball low and as the club goes under the ball you get a high trajectory. Other muscle balances tend to putt short and hit the ball high, causing a low trajectory. To improve putting the golfer should position the head so that the dominant eye has an unobstructed and aligned view of the ball and hole. |
